What is carbon cleaning?

Carbon cleaning is an effective method of removing the carbon deposits that build up over time inside your vehicle’s engine. At Sherburn Rubber & MOT Centre we are pleased to provide EDT (engine detox treatments) for both petrol and diesel vehicles at our workshop in Hillam, Leeds.

In the old days, we had to open up the engine and use chemicals to loosen the carbon from the surfaces, then we had to scrape it off manually. This was time-consuming and not really all that effective because there were lots of surfaces that we just couldn’t reach such as in the turbo and exhaust systems. Thankfully, developments in automotive technology mean that we can now effectively clean the engine, reaching all the previously inaccessible areas, without taking the engine apart.

The process is very straightforward, only taking around 15 minutes to complete. The EDT treatment will pump mineral oil into your vehicle’s engine, which in turn cleans the engine, helping to break down stubborn deposits. The results of the carbon clean are instantaneous and you can expect to see reduced vehicle emissions, better fuel economy, improved engine performance, and overall a quieter running vehicle.
